The Marine Corps League is joining the fight!
There
is currently a petition crossing this country, sponsored by the Marine
Corps League, to petition for the name of the Department of the Navy to
the Department of the Navy and Marine Corps. Their website lists all
the rationale and the latest news about their petition push. Visit the
site, make up your own mind whether to join the fight!

Religious Service CDs
The
First Church of God on Refugee Rd here in Columbus has provided MCFSC
with many copies of a series of sermons by Bishop Timothy Clarke.
While MCFSC is grateful for the donation, we hesitate to send religious
materials to our troops unless we know that they will want and
appreciate them--especially because we would be sending unsolicited
religious materials to Islamic countries.
If you think that
your Marine would appreciate receiving these excellent tapes, please
let us know at the packing event and we will ensure the series is
placed in their care package. You can visit their website and
determine whether these tapes would be of interest to your Marine.
Also, if YOU are interested in the tapes please let me know and I'll make sure you receive a copy of the series.

Welcome
to the February 23, 2010 Edition of MCFSC Connections! If this is your
first newsletter, we especially want to say "Welcome Aboard!"
This
issue announces a few new events that we want to draw your attention to
so you can plan accordingly. First, we know that some folks come to
packing night a bit early so that they can catch up with friends, talk
with others about their Marine, etc. SO, we are trying something new
for March--a "chat" on packing night! Our own Susan Ritter will be
there to host the event which starts at 5:30pm. The regular meeting
still starts at 6:30pm.
This
issue also announces our 4th Annual Meeting. This year the meeting
will be held on Saturday, April 24th and we hope that all our members
and our friends come out for this important event. Our speaker this
year discusses one of the hardest issues that we all could possibly
face someday -- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We'll also have a
presentation on what we hope will be a change in perspective on our
children - our Marines; Transitioning from my child to my grown
adult--how can I continue to influence without controlling? More
information on the annual meeting is in an article to follow and on our
website. So, read the article, and sign up now so you don't forget,
mark your calendars and get set for a great meeting!

We
have added a new chat night at the most convenient time and place we
could think of! At HQ right before the monthly packing night! We
start at 5:30pm, and we've even cleared out a room with a table and
chairs for us to use! Join Susan Ritter, our facilitator for some
socializing with folks that understand.

Marine Corps Clarifies Tattoo Policy

The Marine Corps recently released additional rules to its tattoo policy. In
addition to the already prohibited head and neck, Marines cannot get tattoos or
brands on their hands, fingers, wrists or inside their mouths. Both
commissioned and warrant officers are now limited to four tattoos or brands
visible when wearing the standard physical training uniform. Apparently
invisible tattoos that use ultraviolet ink only visible under a black light are
also banned. Marines who currently have any of the now-prohibited tattoos will
not face any punishment, but they must document the tattoos with photos in
their service record books no later than June 1, 2010.
